Restaurant Review: The Belly Clan

BELLY BUSTING. The Belly Clan, (Intiland Tower, Jl. Jend Sudirman Kav. 32, Jakarta; 021 5790 6000) a new Asian-fusion restaurant in Central Jakarta, was started by five foodloving friends who met while studying in Melbourne.

The restaurant definitely has the feel of an Australian eatery, with an emphasis on fresh ingredients and flavors without too much fuss. The venue’s black and white decor, polished wooden furniture and soft lighting makes it feel hip without trying too hard. Inside the restaurant’s semi-open kitchen, you’ll see executive chef Hengky Efendy creating unique Eastern-western fusion dishes such as crispy barramundi paired with spicy Balinese sambal matah and cheesy mashed potatoes.

Hengky has the knowledge to pull of such dishes since he has worked in a number of Michelin starred restaurants, including Gordon Ramsay’s French-Asian restaurant Maze in Melbourne.
