Even before he was officially appointed the creative director of Calvin Klein, Dior’s former designer Raf Simons never really stopped working. Less than a week after the Calvin Klein announcement happened, the latest collaborative collection between him and Fred Perry was unveiled
The collection takes its inspiration from Fred Perry‘s tennis heritage, a fact that was lost on Belgium-born Simons for some time.
“When UK style and music had a strong influence in Belgium I became aware of the label through all the subcultures that adopted the Fred Perry shirt. I only realized the tennis connection at a later age,” he says. “I think the Fred Perry shirt’s success comes from the fact that it is a very basic casual garment that has found its way into all layers of society, music and sport.”
