Met Gala’s History of Best Dressed Men

HE’S LOOKING AT YOU. As we wait in anticipation for the upcoming Met Gala, we look back to celebrate the best dressed men to have ever graced the Metropolitan Museum’s red carpet

All eyes of the fashion world will focus its attention to the Metropolitan Museum of Art this Monday, May 1 as models, designers, celebrities and A-listers convene for one of fashion’s biggest nights, the Met Gala. For those not in the know, the Met Gala is an annual fund-raising event celebrating the Costume Institute and is seen as an equivalent to the academy awards of fashion. Besides the ever-changing themes of the exhibition, another highlight of the evening is the 45-meter-long red carpet, invitees get to put their best fashion foot forward and show off their style according to the event’s theme. This year the theme pays tribute to designer Rei Kawakubo and her brand Comme des Garçons.

As we await the best-dressed list for this year’s event, we look back to previous Met Gala red carpets to celebrate some of the best-dressed men. Here are some of DA MAN’s picks from the past.

Rami Malek (2016)
Theme: Manus x Machina: Fashion In An Age Of Technology

As one of Dior Homme’s muses, the “Mr. Robot” star Rami Malek comes styled in a sapphire blue custom-tailored suit by the design house.

Zayn Malik (2016)
Theme: Manus x Machina: Fashion In An Age Of Technology

Many commented that the metal arms were a little too much, but we give kudos to Zayn for keeping true to the evening’s technological theme. It went well with Gigi’s metallic style outfit.

Alessandro Michele (2015)
Theme: China: Through the Looking Glass

Of course the creative mind behind Gucci would come dressed in his own designs, but the oriental-inspired designs on his suit fitted well with theme. Alessandro Michele came partnered with Georgia May Jagger.

A$AP Rocky (2014)
Theme: Charles James: Beyond Fashion

Clad in attire from Topman from head to boots, the hip-hopper pulls of a classy style that is both gracefully clean-cut as well as what can be considered modern pimp. It’s no wonder A$AP Rocky continues gain ground as a fashion icon.
