Kris Van Assche is Out, Kim Jones is In!

TRADING PLACES. Just minutes after announcing his departure from Dior Homme, news came out that Kim Jones would be taking Kris Van Assche’s role as artistic director

The fashion world is currently at awe after the surprising news of Kris Van Assche’s departure from his previous post as artistic director of Dior Homme after 11 years at the creative helm. But even more surprising is the news that the men’s fashion brand had already found a replacement. In less than half an hour after Kris Van Assche’s announcement, Dior Homme confirmed that ex-Louis Vuitton artistic director Kim Jones would be taking the role beginning the 1st of April. Jones is set to reveal his first collection for Dior Homme this coming June.

Recruiting Kim Jones as the new artistic director of ready-to-wear and accessory collections is one of the first big moves conducted by Pietro Beccari, who became chairman and chief executive officer at Christian Dior Couture six weeks ago following positions at Fendi and Vuitton.

“I am delighted to welcome Kim Jones, with whom I had the chance to collaborate previously at Louis Vuitton,” Beccari stated. “I admire his creative vision, which combines both his own inspirations of contemporary culture and his own reinterpretation of specific codes and heritage of a house. I am confident in his ability to recreate his universe within the maison Dior and imagine for Dior Homme an elegant and resolutely modern wardrobe.”

Since taking up the role of artistic director for Dior Homme in 2007, the styles followed heavily the slim tailoring pioneered by Hedi Slimane whom Van Assche happened to work under before taking up the lead creative role. With Jones’ street inspired style, Dior Homme is sure to see a major change in its current style. We’ll just have to wait and see what he will bring in the next few months. Van Assche is expected to take up a new assignment within LVMH Moët Hennessy Louis Vuitton. A change of maisons of sorts by the two ex-artistic directors.

“I am deeply honored to join the house of Dior, a symbol of the ultimate elegance. I would like to warmly thank Bernard Arnault and Pietro Beccari for their trust in giving me this incredible opportunity,” Jones said in a statement. “I am committed to create a modern and innovative male silhouette built upon the unique legacy of the house.”
