The start of 2018 kicks off with a big surprise for many fashion fans as British designer Kim Jones, who has held the position of men’s artistic designer for Louis Vuitton for the past seven years, is set to part ways with the brand. His last collection for the brand will be Louis Vuitton’s fall 2018 collection being presented this Thursday during Paris Men’s Fashion Week. Louis Vuitton has yet to announce who will be taking over the reins following Jones’ departure.
Being a globe-trotter extraordinaire with a passion for wildlife, Jones has often brought this adoration out in his designs, as you can see in his island inspired Spring/Summer 2018 collection. His flair for streetwear has brought with it some great collaborations from the highly sought after Supreme X Louis Vuitton collaboration to collaborating with Japanese “Godfather of Streetwear” Hiroshi Fujiwara for the Fragment Design X Louis Vuitton collection. Jones has also brought with him a string of celebrity friends that lead to some of Louis Vuitton’s most successful projects and collaborations.
There is still much speculation on where Jones will be headed after this, but there have been suspicions that he will take over Chris Bailey’s position in Burberry, which ends this March. Due to Jones’ strong influence in the streetwear scene, rumors have also aired that Versace is also interested in picking up the designer, but we will just have to wait and see what the fashion industry has in store in the next few months. As for Jones’ last show, it’s sure to be bring in a crowd, all to see his final hoorah for Louis Vuitton.
