MILLENNIAL NEW WAVE. To launch its winter 2017 campaign, Dior Homme’s creative director Kris Van Assche has chosen to feature ’80s icon Dave Gahan of Depeche Mode
It has been 10 years since Dior Homme has been under the artistic direction of Kris Van Asche and to celebrate this decade long achievement, the French luxury menswear retailer has launched its Winter 2017 ad campaign. The campaign features Depeche Mode front man Dave Gahan and actor Lucas Hedges from the Academy Award nominated “Manchester by the Sea”, alongside models Dylan Roques and Christophe ‘t Kint. British photographer David Sims was chosen to shoot the advertising images, while stylist Mauricio Nardi was responsible for carrying out the deconstructed yet pinstriped tailoring vision of the collection.
Unlike previous Dior Homme campaigns that were presented in black and white, this campaign was shot in color. Images of Gahan and Hedges were shot with a background featuring crisscrossed tape bearing the words “HARDIOR”, taken from Van Asche’s Fall runway show from earlier this year, where Depeche Mode songs were the events soundtrack. The campaign itself seems to envision contrast as the images with the HARDIOR taped background feature a more tailored look, while the second series of images mixes elements of bygone bourgeoisie with raw youthful energy.
The campaign also features an accompanying video which was directed by Sim titled #intothenight.
