There are a lot of factors that you might want to look into when picking a new pair of socks, from thickness to specialized versions for hiking and so on. these, however, tend to vary greatly from brand to brand. if there’s one relatively reliable method to choose socks, it would be material:
- Cotton: Comfortable and inexpensive, but ill-suited for active use (it absorbs sweat just fine, but takes ages to dry).
- Merino wool: Comfortable in both warm and cold weather, offers superior cushioning and less itching (compared to standard wool), but is rather expensive.
- Synthetics: Has superior moisture-wicking qualities, but tends to be uncomfortable in hot weather—especially if you tend to sweat a lot.
- Silk: Excellent moisture-wicking abilities, lightweight and incredibly soft. Of course, silk stocks are also incredibly expensive.
