WITHOUT EXCEPTION. Meet Baume & Mercier’s new Clifton Club Quartz watches and the brand’s sport ambassadors who truly embody the “gentlesportsmen” ideals
The Clifton Club collection has, for good reason, become one of the most stylish pillars for Swiss watch brand Baume & Mercier. And now, the collection expands further with the addition of the Clifton Club Quartz.
But before we get to the watches themselves, perhaps this is also a good time to meet some actual “gentlesportsmen”—to borrow the brand’s vernacular—who embody the spirit behind the collection. As it happens, Baume & Mercier has arranged a photo shoot featuring some of the brand’s sport ambassadors.
The idea behind Baume & Mercier’s photo shoot was “express the flexibility of a man who is both athletic and refined with a play on the duality of looks that demonstrate two states of mind—two personalities—without dissociating them.” As such, the athletes wore a combination of their respective sports’ outfits or equipment while also donning an article of clothing or accessory that was unmistakably elegant. And then there’s the wide range of passions and skills that was gathered on set:
The picture above depicts (from left to right) world champion skater Taig Khris from France, Brazilian world champion swimmer Cesar Cielo, French freestyler Hugo Hoff, Olympic field hockey silver medalist Tom Boon from Belgium, Sacha Prost from Swiss who co-founded 8JS (a clothing brand inspired from the golden era of formula one), Brazilian surfer Miguel Pupo and world champion canoer Saul Craviotto from Spain.
Most of these gentlesportsmen appear once again in the photo below, joined by Italian foil fencer Daniele Garozzo (second from the right) who the gold medal in the Men’s Individual Foil at the 2016 Summer Olympics and swimmer Luca Dotto (far right) who holds the Italian record in the 100m freestyle. Truly an impressive—and inspiring—group of friends.
Back to the Clifton Club Quartz itself, we find a selection of timepieces that offer elegance, sporting prowess, functionality and comfort on the wrist. Unlike the Clifton Club Automatic, the Clifton Club Quartz reveals a non-rotating and snailed bezel that reinforces its athletic look. The color schemes (black, blue and contemporary orange) and water-resistance up to 10 ATM (100 meters) assured by a sealed, screwed-in caseback makes it a sporty, functional watch ideal for water sports.
Like all Baume & Mercier signature watches, the Clifton Club Quartz features high-end finishes applied in the greatest respect of Swiss watchmaking traditions. With alternating polished-satin finishes, the case immediately brings to mind performance and elegance, fairness and power.
One final stylistic touch that needs pointing out sits on the back of the watch: the coat of arms, which acts much like a private members’ club card. This coat of arms symbolizes the noble values associated with a particular idea of sport that Baume & Mercier has always honored: camaraderie, elegance, generosity, courage, and team spirit.
