Alexander Wang surprised the fashion show-goers with a collaborative collection with Adidas
Designer Alexander Wang‘s Spring 2017 show at New York Fashion Show went as expected at first. There was music (obviously), celebrities (definitely), awesome clothes (of course)… Then the finale happened, and nobody saw it coming.
After some teasing on social media, Wang has decided to drop a surprise collection at the end of his show. Created in collaboration with Adidas, the collection is all about athleisure (it’s not dead yet!) and called Originals by Alexander Wang.
Through the unisex collection, Wang hopes to “disrupt” Adidas’ signature look and, at the same time, still makes it recognizable. The first thing he disrupts is Adidas’ famous logo, which appears upside down on every piece in the collection.
Overall, there are 84 items in the said collection, which consists of pants, tops and shoes, among others. The collection won’t be available until next year during the spring season but, as a way of introduction, Wang has opened a pop-up “truck” to sell a number of limited edition pieces. Starting September 17, the truck will visit some major cities around the world such as Tokyo and London.
Moreover, images from the ad campaign have also been published on Adidas Originals’ Instagram. Shot by Juergen Teller, the campaign features an appearance by Madonna and Guy Ritchie’s model son, Rocco Ritchie (see above).
