GRAMMY GENTS. The thing about Grammy Awards is it’s the one night when celebrities allow themselves to get a little (or a lot) experimental with their outfits
Of course this unspoken red carpet rule can backfire. Sometimes, those celebrities can be a bit too, well, crazy; and we don’t mean that in a good way.
Fortunately, some men do get it right.
Check out 5 styling tips you can learn from DA MAN‘s favorite red carpet looks at the 2016 Grammy Awards!
1. Real Men Wear Pink
What is gender in fashion nowadays, anyway? “Girly pink” and “boyish blue”? They’re for babies. Be a man and wear the color, just like country singer Sam Hunt, who wore a pale pink Dolce & Gabbana suit on the red carpet.
2. White Jackets Are Not Just for Waiters
Justin Bieber and rapper Big Sean, in Saint Laurent and Z Zegna respectively, showed everyone that, when worn with the right amount of swag, confidence and attitude, white jackets can make you look like a leading man.
And when all else fails, bring your cute little brother with you as a distraction.
3. Get a Cool Jacket
If you’re like us at all, you were probably following the not-so-benevolent Twitter exchange between Wiz Khalifa and Kanye West earlier this February. But in one of his tweets, West actually complimented Khalifa for his “cool pants.” At the 2016 Grammy Awards, though, Khalifa proved to West that he has an affinity for cool jackets too.
Khalifa further upped his suiting game by pairing his Thom Browne three-piece suit with a pair of white sneakers.
4. Pick Patterns
Some of the best-dressed men of the 2016 Grammys knew that all black makes a dull suit. Take a risk with pinstripes, just like Miguel did in his Versace suit. Or do a John Legend by opting for a jacket with an animal pattern (if you take a closer look, those are bees on his Gucci jacket). The subtle polka dots on Common’s dress shirt and lapels also managed to upgrade his whole look.
5. Be Yourself
You just can’t separate the man from his hat. A favorite of Burberry, musician James Bay was even spotted wearing his signature fedora in the brand’s Christmas campaign. When he attended the 2016 Grammys, Bay didn’t leave his hat at home and even wore it together with what otherwise would have been a somewhat boring black Burberry tuxedo. It just goes to show that adding some personality to your look always pays off.
